Once a home for
Apache Indians, majestic mountains and magnificent scenery draw visitors to this bird-watchers paradise along the Gila River. Lush vegetation in nearby Aravaipa Canyon, nourished by Aravaipa Creek, offers contrast to the desert landscape, and the George Whittell Wildlife Preserve at the entrance to the canyon preserves valuable habitat. At Kearny Lake, fish are stocked and guests enjoy picnicking and small-boat trolling. The river offers summer rafting, kayaking, canoeing and tubing, and other outdoor activities include golf, hiking, hunting and annual community festivals.

This wilderness retreat on 300 acres of high Sonoran desert is adjacent to the Federal Wilderness Area in Aravaipa Canyon,
an area world renown for it's excellent birding and hiking. The charming burnt adobe ranch house and five private Artist's cottages are a veritable museum of folk art. Each spacious casita offers queen bed, oversize shower, fireplace, refrigerator, and covered patio. There are no phones or televisions to interrupt the sounds of the creek and songbirds (there is a phone in the main house). A delightful setting for small weddings and gatherings. Continental plus breakfast, hearty lunch, and memorable dinner are included. Smoking outside, no pets, children possible. $250 plus tax.
