Intermingled yet distinct Spanish, Anglo and American Indian communities live between the base of the Sangre de Cristo Range and the Rio Grande.  The renowned Taos Society of Artists continues to make its mark as a hub of creativity and host of varied performing arts and spectator events.  Many of the shops and galleries in historic Taos Plaza and side streets were homes of leading citizens, among them Kit Carson.  The area offers a wealth of museums as well as abundant attractions, such as Rio Grande white water rafting, legendary ski resorts, alpine hiking and riding trails in Wheeler Peak Wilderness Area, Red River fly fishing, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, championship golf courses, hot air ballooning, scenic byways, windsurfing and the Great Sand Dunes National Monument.

Near Valverde and Camino de la Placita. This charming 60-year-old adobe hacienda sits in a valley below town surrounded by pastures providing country privacy and sweeping mountain views, yet is only a 15 minute walk to the famed Taos Plaza. Area attractions include skiing, rafting, ballooning, galleries, and fabulous eateries. Five lovely guest rooms, two of which may be combined as a suite, each have private bath.  Some have kiva fireplace, TV, or private entrance. Full breakfast. Smoking outside, children welcome, pets with prior arrangement and additional fee.   Two-night minimum for stays involving Friday or Saturday.  Seasonal D/$80-145 plus tax.  Additional guests $20/night each.

This approx. 800-square-foot guest house with lovely mountain views is just 15 minutes from the ski valley. There is a large bedroom with a king bed, a large living room with sleep sofa and 36" cable television. There is a kitchen with all appliances and a fully equipped laundry room. The bathroom is handicap enabled. Guests are welcome to use the hot tub, made private to guests. Breakfast stocked for first morning, then self-catering. No smoking on premises. Children welcome. Guest pet negotiable. $115-$175/night, seasonal.
