This charming town of antique shops and historic buildings was founded in 1872, set against majestic Mt. Graham and the Gila River.  A wealth of recreation is available for avid outdoorsmen as well as those interested in simply looking for breathtaking views.  The Swift Trail winds 36 miles from town to the 10,713-foot top of Mount Graham, and Aravaipa Canyon wilderness is perfect for backpacking. The area is well known for its mineral hot springs, and there are two areas available to rock-hounds maintained by the U.S. Bureau of Land management.  Visitors also enjoy golf and local museums.  Discovery Park is a 200-acre science, space and cultural center exploring the Desert Southwest with exhibits, a simulated space shuttle ride, 20-inch telescope, wildlife habitat and riparian area.  Roper Lake is a lovely place to fish, hike and enjoy the rock-lined pools filled by natural hot springs.

Listed on the National Historic Register, this elegant 1890 Western Colonial-style house features verandas with mountain views running the length of the house, 12-foot ceilings, antique furnishings and incredible original woodwork. It is walking distance to downtown and a short distance to mineral hot springs, golf, riding stables, hiking and birding. Three bedrooms upstairs in main house have queen or king bed, and share a bath with shower and a large parlor. Two guest cottages each have queen bed, one with additional queen day bed and a full kitchen. Both have refrigerator, microwave, TV, private bath, phone. Full breakfast. No smoking or pets, children 12+ in main house, under 12 in cottages only. D/$75, add $10/extra guest. Seasonal, weekly, monthly, corporate and group rates available.
