Cedar City, Utah
Cedar City was
originally an iron mining town populated with English, Welsh, and Scottish Mormon
converts, who turned to raising livestock with the closing of the mine. In the 1920's, it
became a popular tourist destination, due to its proximity to many scenic areas. There are
several points of historical interest in the area, and throughout the year the town hosts
several festivals: The Paiute Indian Restoration Gathering, The Utah Summer games, The
Highland Heritage Festival, The Utah Shakespearean Festival, The Midsummer Renaissance
Faire, The American Folk Ballet Summer Festival, and the Winter Fest. There is also skiing
at Brian Head Resort, 29 miles away.
