La
Posada Hotel, the "last great railroad hotel," offers a
unique cultural experience for Southwest travelers. Built in 1929 for
the Santa Fe Railway, La Posada is truly one of America’s treasures.
This enchanting 1930’s hacienda style hotel designed by Mary Colter
-- perhaps the greatest architect of the Southwest -- was her
masterpiece and the last built by the Santa Fe Railroad. It was a
favorite retreat for Hollywood stars and such notables as Harry Truman
and Charles Lindbergh. Wander through the ballroom, arcades and
grounds, or take a day trip to the Grand Canyon, Hopi Mesas, Meteor
Crater, Petrified Forest, Sedona, or nearby petroglyph canyons. Within
5 miles of golf, the airport, tennis, fishing, and shopping.
The
Turquoise Room (see below) is considered one of the finest restaurants
in the Four Corners area. With china inspired by Mimbres Indian
pottery and an eclectic menu created by the renowned chef, guests can
expect an experience that delights the senses.
