Listed on the National Historic Register, this Western Colonial Revival-style house was built in 1890 by an English master ship builder for the sheriff of Graham County. The elegant home straight from the time of cattle rustling, prospecting and Indian raids helps guests experience the Old West in gentle fashion. A peek inside reveals spacious rooms with 12-foot ceilings five fireplaces with original tile work and mantles, and incredible original woodwork. Upper and lower verandas with views of the sunset on the Gila Mountains span the front of the house.
It is within walking distance of downtown and a short distance from the hot mineral springs, a golf course, and riding stables. The Kachina Mineral Springs is the largest commercial hot springs spa with 8 tubs, 6 of which are in private Roman-style settings, and certified massage therapists are available by appointment if desired. There is also the Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area located in the desert dunes at the foot of the Whitlock Mountains, where there are two concrete mineral tubs.
For hikers, the lovely mountains (sky islands) which surround this valley offer uncrowded trails with refreshing bathing pools along the way, and there are canyons to explore where a magnificent riparian paradise exists.
