This
historic adobe inn, originally built as a boarding house for miners
offers charm, quiet and privacy. The building has been lovingly
restored into four charming guest accommodations, each with a private
entrance. Relax and watch the world go by on the front porch, or take
a leisurely nap in the back patio hammock. The terraced back yard has
two patios, several cozy seating areas, a fire pit for chilly
evenings, and a pleasing array of flowering plants, cacti, butterflies
and birds as well as a wonderful view of the Patagonia Mountains.
Located one block from the town square, it is within walking distance
of local shops, art galleries and restaurants, as well as the Nature
Conservancy bird sanctuary. From Patagonia, it is a twenty-minute
drive to Nogales, a gateway to Old Mexico. Wireless internet access is
available for guests who wish to bring their computers. The Duquesne
House is available for small parties, receptions and gatherings.
Location:
Near Fourth St. and Duquesne Avenue
Amenities:
Each of the three suites has a private entrance, sitting room with
twin beds, a bedroom with a queen bed, private full bath and a rear
door that opens onto the back porch, which makes for a cozy but
spacious retreat for two and comfortable lodging for four. Each suite
is colorfully painted and uniquely decorated with rustic Mexican
furniture and folk art and hand made quilts. A cozy efficiency
apartment with it’s own entrance and a small kitchen is also
available. All accommodations have access to a large screened porch
and common sitting room.
The
"Roland R. Richardson Suite", named after the man who
founded Patagonia and built The Duquesne House, features hand carved
wooden chairs from Mexico and a beautiful wrought iron queen bed.
Colorful hand painted flowers frame the bedroom mirror and brightly
painted chile peppers surround the front door.
"Miss
Medley’s Suite" was inspired by a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The wood burning stove, claw foot tub, Guatamalan textiles and Mexican
bark paintings add a cozy charm to the desert pastels of the wall
stenciling.
"Marguerite"s
Suite" features two antique needlepoint chairs and a wrought iron
canopy bed, as well as an heirloom wall hanging appliqued with pink
roses. Look inside the antique Mexican trunk to discover the decals
that tell the story of someone’s many travels.
The
studio apartment, "El Cuarto Bonito", includes a queen bed,
kitchenette, TV, and large, tiled walk-in shower. Walk under the rose
covered trellis to its private front door and then relax with a book
on its cozy enclosed back porch.
